Much has been made of how well Sydney and North Melbourne have been playing this year despite not managing a win in the first four rounds.

Well, as it turns out, Sydney – with a percentage of 80.1 – is statistically the best 0-4 team the AFL has seen since the 2002 Western Bulldogs (81.4).

And with a percentage of 80.0, the Kangaroos are the equal-second best 0-4 side in the past decade along with the 2007 Richmond team (80.0).

But this year’s Sydney and North Melbourne teams are way back in the pecking order when it comes to all-time 0-4 teams.

The Swans are ranked 15th and the Kangaroos are equal 16th.

The best 0-4 team in the history of the game was the 1931 Hawthorn side which had a percentage of 88.0 after narrow losses to Footscray (one point), Collingwood (19), St Kilda (four) and Melbourne (15) to start the season.

It’s a far cry from the 2017 version of the Hawks who are rock bottom with a paltry percentage of 56.0 thanks largely to 86-point hammerings from Gold Coast and Geelong.
