“The blowtorch will be on” Richmond if they suffer an upset loss to Carlton in the season opener on Thursday night, according to Triple M Footy’s Jay Clark.

The Tigers are the comfortable favourites to collect the four premiership points against the Blues, who are tipped by many to finish in the bottom four.

Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall agrees with Jay-Z that Richmond will be under enormous pressure should things go awry first-up.

“If Richmond aren’t methodical and efficient in putting them away, there’ll be a lot of questions asked,” Chief told The Midweek Rub on Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“And if the unthinkable should happen, we’ll have some big stories next week.”

Former North Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw recounted how down in the dumps Richmond CEO Brendon Gale was this time last year when the Tigers struggled to overcome the underrated Blues.

“I remember we did that game last year and got in the car afterwards and Richmond had squeaked home by about eight points,” JB said.

“Having played finals the year before, they were expected to fly. I went down to the bottom of the MCG to get my car, Benny Gale was walking the other way and he was not white, you could see through him.

“I reckon he could tell at that time that things weren’t settling as well as they’d like to so that’s a massive game.”
