There's something about the Bulldogs that are putting them behind...literally.

The reigning premiers now sit sixth with a 5-3 record and a percentage of just 107.8% after last night's loss to West Coast.

It came on the back of yet another bad start.

The Western Bulldogs have now lost seven first quarters in a row this season.

After leading Collingwood by 20 points at the first break in round one, the Dogs have lost every first quarter since, by an average margin of 11 points.

It included last night's clash with West Coast, where they trailed by 16 points at the first change, 4.2 (26) to to 1.4 (10).

The Bulldogs' record after that isn't too shabby: they have four wins from eight second quarters (ranked #7 in the league), six wins and a draw in third quarters (#1) and five out of eight last quarters (#7).
