Tonight’s Fremantle v Collingwood game at Optus Stadium has already broken the record for the biggest crowd in the AFLW.

Over 25,000 have packed in to the new stadium — colloquially known as Jeff — which breaks the record set by the Carlton v Collingwood season opener last year.

The record for AFLW attendance was broken half an hour before the first bounce.

Far more people will come through the gates; with tickets sold out an attendance of 55,000 is not out of the question.

The crowd is also likely to be larger than the Fremantle men’s team has ever played in front of at home — their record home attendance is 42,213 in a 2006 Western Derby.

This article has been updated to reflect that this crowd would be higher than Fremantle's men's record home attendance rather than overall attendance.
