Carlton tyro Patrick Cripps played his 50th game today, a number that feel like it should be much higher because of how he plays.

He was influential in Carlton’s upset win over Sydney at the MCG today, racking up 27 touches (11 contested), seven marks, seven tackles, four clearances, two inside 50s and a goal.

At 22, he’s already an elite contested ball and clearance player, and will only get better as he grows.

The 50 match sample size makes it possible to effectively compare him to other players at that stage of their respective careers, and he stacks up exceptionally well.

The contested possession stats are particularly mind-blowing — he’s nearly 150 ahead of his nearest competitor.

If these trends continue, Cripps is liekly end up the best contested and clearance player of all time.
