North Adelaide have won their 14th SANFL premiership over Norwood in an entertaining affair at Adelaide Oval, despite a 32 touch, six goal performance from Mitch Grigg.

The Roosters led for nearly the entire match despite the almost goal for goal nature of most of the game, and finally confirmed victory when Alex Barns put them 18 points ahead in the 23rd minute of the final term.

They went on to win 19.10 (124) to 15.15 (105), in front of an enormous crowd of 40,355.

The 19-point margin is fitting, given the swirl of controversy around North Adelaide during the week.

They fielded a 19th player for four minutes of their five point preliminary final win over Woodville West-Torrens last week, leading to a tribunal having to rule on their eligibility for the grand final.

The tribunal allowed the Roosters to play in the decider, but deducted them four premiership points next season and fined them $10,000.

None of that will matter to the Roosters, who will put the 2018 premiership cup in their trophy cabinet.

Barns kicked four majors for the Roosters, while Mitch Harvey booted 3.2 from his 12 touches.

The clear standout from both sides, however, was former Crow Mitch Grigg, who won the Jack Oatey Medal for best afield for his 31 touch, six goal, six inside 50 and four tackle game.
