The wife of Hawthorn legend John Kennedy Senior, Dulcie, has sadly passed away at the age of 87.

Hawthorn interim CEO Tim Silvers extended the club’s deepest sympathies to John and the entire Kennedy family.

“The board of directors, management, staff and players of Hawthorn Football Club wish to extend their sincerest condolences to John Snr and children Maureen, John Jnr, Bernard, Patrick, and their extended family and friends at this sad time,” Silvers said.

“Dulcie touched the lives of so many people at Hawthorn and her friendly nature and kind heart made her a joy to be around.

“The impact of the Kennedy family on our football club will be eternal and Dulcie’s legacy will always live on at Hawthorn.”

John Kennedy senior is of course one of the most important figures in the history of the Hawthorn Football Club.

After playing 164 games for the Hawks, captaining them for five years and winning four best-and-fairests, he went on to coach them to their first three premierships in 1961, 1971 and 1976.

John junior had a successful playing career with Hawthorn too, playing 241 games and winning four flags.

John senior and Dulcie are also the grandparents of Sydney star Josh Kennedy.

Dulcie had been the Hawks' female No.1 ticket holder for the last three seasons.
