Collingwood has confirmed both Jamie Elliott and Taylor Adams have been grounded by hamstring strains.

Both players left Collingwood training early, with coach Nathan Buckley initially dismissing them as sore.

But the club has confirmed on Wednesday afternoon both have suffered low-grade hamstring strains.

Neither will be available to play against Adelaide on Friday night, with the Pies optimistic they could be fit for the Anzac Day clash with Essendon in two weeks.

Triple M's Hot Breakfast footy reporter Tom Browne says Jamie Elliott has hurt his hamstring.

Elliott has been pushing for an AFL return after pre-season ankle surgery and kicked five goals for Collingwood in the VFL on the weekend, before pulling up sore at training.

Browne has reported it's more than just soreness, and the injury will push him back even further.

“Jamie Elliott came off sore, that’s what Nathan Buckley reported in his post-training media conference," he said on Twitter.

"I understand Elliott has aggravated a hamstring, meaning he won’t play on Friday night (against Adelaide).

"It’ll push him back either two or three weeks."
