Melbourne's Tom Bugg has received his punishment from the AFL tribunal.

The Demon will miss 6 weeks after pleading guilty for his punch to the head of Sydney defender Callum Mills.

Mills was concussed in the opening minutes and played no further part in the Swans' win on Friday night.

The strike was classified as intentional, high impact and high contact.

Sydney provided two medical reports to the tribunal - the first of which stated Mills had failed a concussion test and required ongoing monitoring.

The second medical report from today read that he is recovering well.

The tribunal heard that Simon Goodwin apologised to Sydney coach John Longmire - and Bugg has since apologised personally to Mills.

Bugg was represented by high-profile player advocate Iain Findlay, who had previously defended Jack Viney in 2014.
