Gold Coast has confirmed that captain Tom Lynch has officially requested a trade to Richmond.

Lynch has entered free agency, and his desire to go to the Tigers has been the AFL’s worst-held secret for some time.

The Suns posted an update today, clarifying Lynch’s position:

“The Gold Coast SUNS wish to confirm that Tom Lynch has informed the club of his desire to join the Richmond Football Club as a Restricted Free Agent.

“Once the AFL Free Agency Period has commenced Richmond will lodge Lynch’s contract with the AFL. The SUNS will then be provided details of the contract and will have three days to determine if it intends to match the offer to Lynch or release him to the Tigers.

“Should the club choose to match Richmond’s offer, Lynch has the option to either fulfil the contract with the SUNS, or alternatively enter the draft.

“The club is not in a position to make further comment until the club is provided the details of Richmond’s contract offer to Lynch.”

The Suns are tipped to receive a pick after their first rounder — currently pick 3 — which is the highest band of compensation if they don’t match Richmond’s offer.

Lynch co-captained the Suns for the last two seasons and played 131 games for the club after coming as one of their inaugural players in 2011.

He booted 254 goals in that time, leading their goal kicking four times and was best and fairest in 2015 and 2016.

Tom Browne says Kade Kolodjashnij has requested a trade from Gold Coast to Melbourne.
