Triple M's Damian Barrett says Sydney assistant Stuart Dew has pulled out of a scheduled interview for the Gold Coast coaching job, due to the news linking Ken Hinkley to the job.

Barrett reported on the Sunday Footy Show that Dew had an interview fixed in, but had since cancelled.

“It involves Stuart Dew, the Sydney Swans assistant coach, who was in the running for the Gold Coast senior coaching job,” he said on Channel 9.

“He pulled out of a scheduled interview with the Gold Coast Suns’ full team yesterday to thrash out his credentials for that job. He pulled out the day before."

Barrett said it follows the news surrounding Hinkley, who has been linked to the job.

Port Adelaide has confirmed Gold Coast has approached him about taking on the role, where he was once an assistant coach.

“The reasons I believe that he gave the Gold Coast Suns for so doing were that until the Ken Hinkley situation is sorted one way or another, he does not want to be part of any process around that Gold Coast coaching vacancy," he said.

“He’s a Port Adelaide-connected person, Stuart Dew, obviously. His mail, as far as he had read it, was that there was enough smoke around the Ken Hinkley situation for him to not want to be part of this Gold Coast Suns coaching process until he knows more about the Ken Hinkley situation.”
