It was a bloody grouse year for footy in 2016, and Triple M’s coverage has gone from strength to strength.

We’ve made it our mission to bring you the best, sharpest and funniest footy coverage this year, and as we turn for the last week of the year it’s natural to look back and see what our best work was.

So in that spirit, here are the top 10 stories you read this year:

10. Western Bulldogs Banner Man Posts Hilarious List Of Rejected Banners For Tonight's Final

It’s no surprise that Danny McGinlay would feature in this list. This one is from the semi-final against Hawthorn, when the Hawks were triple-reigning premiers and the Dogs were rank outsiders to win the semi let alone the whole shebang.

9. Josh Kennedy Is Up To Some Serious Antics At The Brownlow

With Danger the clear winner from a mile out, the most interesting thing about the Brownlow Medal was seeing how many beers the West Coast version of Josh Kennedy could stick down his neck. Spoiler: lots.

8. Tom Liberatore Got The Loosest Haircut Halfway Through A Footy Match In Vietnam

Libba was in such grouse form this year that even his haircuts were box office. We salute him.

7. Michael Barlow Is Taking The Piss In The WAFL

For some reason you guys were absolutely frothing for some Michael Barlow action in May. We’re not sure either, this one’s on you.

6. Tom Liberatore Gives The Loosest Interview During His Lap Of Honour

Libba has had the most seminal year since Nirvana dropped Nevermind in 91. This was the interview that really kicked it off, when he claimed to have made an Ashes ton against Funky Miller at the G with a premiership medallion around his neck. The man has a PhD in looseness.

5. Geelong's Wacky Wednesday Costumes Are OUTSTANDING

The Cats Mad Monday costumes are as reliable as Powderfinger were in the late 90s/early 00s. Year after you know you’ll get quality. 2016 clearly no different.

4. The Footy Show Set For A New Host

We’re still in shock to be honest.

3. SANFL U18 Grand Final Ends With The Craziest After-The-Siren Kick You'll Ever Witness

No matter how many times you watch this, you’ll never be able to figure out how it got through. Unbelievable stuff.

2. Luke Darcy's Incredible Reaction To The Western Bulldogs' Premiership

“62 years… I can’t.”

1. How The Footy World Reacted To Billy’s Footy Show Interview

Billy Brownless is one of the most well-loved figures in footy, so when it came time for him to bare all in an emotional interview about his public bust-up with Garry Lyon on the Footy Show in March, the footy world rallied around him.

That this story ended the year at number one is a testament to not only the footy world’s love for Billy, but yours as well.
