St Kilda has tied down Shane Savage and Jack Lonie on new contracts.

Savage has signed a two-year deal to take him until the end of 2019, while Lonie has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension, taking him to 2018.

St Kilda chief operating office Ameet Bains was excited to see the two stay on.

“Despite the disappointment of failing to reach the finals, the club believes the young playing group took a step forward in their development this season,” he told St Kilda's website.

“Shane and Jack are both popular members of our playing group which is developing a strong bond on and off the field."

Bains said Savage's second half of the season, averaging 25 disposals a game across the last eight weeks of the year.

"Shane’s drive out of defence in the second half of the season was an important element as the club strived for a finals berth," he said.

"After a period out of the team, he showed great resilience to win his spot back and then seize his opportunity.

"He was able to find great balance between defending his opponent and taking the game on with his run and elite kicking."

Bains also expressed his delight with Lonie's attitude in 2017.

"Jack also demonstrated his determination to be part of the senior team, even when required to play at Sandringham," he said.

"His attitude was reflected by his dominance at that level and resulted in 12 appearances in the senior side.

"Jack’s forward pressure and football smarts are highly regarded and with another strong pre-season we expect him to achieve the consistency required to become a regular senior player."
