The Melbourne Cricket Club has warned people to arrive early and leave the car at home for Friday night's qualifying final clash between Geelong and Richmond.

With 95,000 people expected to attend plus limited parking and increased security, fans have been warned to prepare.

The parking has been limited due to this week's wet conditions, according to MCC general manager of venue and even services Gerard Griffin.

“We are urging fans to think ahead and plan their journey,” he said.

"We strongly encourage fans not to drive all the way to the MCG, and to take public transport where possible."

Parking will open from 3pm, but only a limited number of spaces will be available.

"With the limited capacity in Yarra Park unable to meet the demand for vehicles, those who can't avoid driving are urged to arrive early and consider parking in the city or an area near to the ground; then walk or catch public transport to the stadium itself," Griffin said.

Fans will also need to note the added security and bag checks at the 'G, with Griffin warning every fan will have to go through the same "stringent" process.
