Warren Tredrea has put pressure on Hamish Hartlett, saying the Port Adelaide star is 'lucky' to still be in the side.

Port Adelaide swung the axe this week after being thumped by Essendon, with Jasper Pittard, Brendon Ah Chee and Jimmy Toumpas all cut from the team.

Tredders believes Hartlett was lucky not to be one of them.

"Yes (he's lucky). Absolutely," he said on the Rush Hour with Jars and Louie.

He believes Hartlett doesn't fit the mould of a half back, not like his teammate Pittard.

"I'm not sure where he is as a player at the moment. He's not a half back flanker," he told Triple M.

"One thing Pittard can do: he can lock down. Hamish proved last week that his efforts and reading of the play and (positioning are) not what it was five, six, ten years ago, where you could put a bloke who's a midfielder at half back and they (don't) have to defend.

"They have to defend first and foremost, and he's not doing that well enough."

However, Tredders doesn't disagree with the decision to drop Pittard, either.

"No (he's not stiff)," he said.

"His form isn't what it was last year. He came third in the best and fairest, he was as dynamic a half back in the game...he was just outside the All-Australian team."
