Wayne Carey has named his top 10 midfielders in the competition.

And there's one big omission: Nat Fyfe.

"I was sitting down a couple of days ago, and I was thinking about (Nat) Fyfe, and where does Fyfe sit," he said on the Sunday Rub.

"Is he right now in the top 10 on-ballers in the competition?

"He's not. He's not in the top 10, believe it or not."

Duck said he still believes Patrick Dangerfield is number one in the league, but the margin's getting smaller.

"I still think Patrick Dangerfield is the best on-baller in the competition, but what I'm noticing is that gap is closing," he said.

There was no room for Gary Ablett or Tom Mitchell either.

"Gazza's gone back into the midfield and he's getting big numbers," he said.

"He's not doing what Dangerfield and that are doing. He's not busting a game open, he's not grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and winning a game."

Duck's top 10 on-ballers:

Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood, Rory Sloane, Dustin Martin, Josh Kelly, Trent Cotchin, Scott Pendlebury, Josh Kennedy, Marcus Bontempelli, Clayton Oliver
