Wayne Carey used to play with West Coast coach Adam Simpson in his North Melbourne days, with the two both playing in the 1996 and 1999 premierships.

But speaking on the Rush Hour today, Carey had some tough words for Simpson as a coach.

Carey feels that West Coast’s away form is a big problem for Simpsons, specifically in regards to how poorly they’ve played at the MCG.

“What I’ve noticed about Simmo, I obviously played with Simmo for a long time and he’s done a very good job at West Coast,” Carey said.

“[But] he gets very, very defensive when West Coast’s away record [comes up], he gets his back right up.

“Well it’s time to put up or shut up, I reckon.”

Carey said that if the Eagles can’t be a struggling Hawthorn outfit the time for excuses is over.

“If they get beaten by Hawthorn on the weekend, you know what Simmo? No more of this ‘oh we’re not that bad away’,” Duck said.

“Ya know what Simmo? You’re crap away!

“If you get beaten well by the Hawks then I reckon they’ve got to really have a real good look because you can’t win a grand final unless you win on the MCG.”

West Coast take on the struggling Hawks at the MCG on Sunday at 4:40pm.
