West Coast coach Adam Simpson’s daughter Elsa “has turned the corner” after she was admitted to hospital in Perth with an illness on Saturday night.
The scary experience forced Simpson to return to Perth and hand over coaching responsibilities to assistant Jaymie Graham for the Eagles’ game against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday at Etihad Stadium, which they won by 51 points.
“A sincere thank you to everyone for your messages of support over the past 24 hours. Elsa has turned the corner and in good spirits and for that we are extremely grateful,” Simpson said in a statement.
“As we all know footy is a big part of our lives but family comes first and I thank the club for its support during this time.
“I am extremely proud of how the players, coaches and staff handled themselves yesterday.
“We all look forward to taking on the Cats on Sunday.”
