Roarke Smith’s worst fears have been realised with scans confirming the young Bulldog has ruptured the ACL in his left knee.

The 20-year-old requires his second knee reconstruction within the space of 19 months and his 2017 season is now over.

Smith re-injured his left knee against the Brisbane Lions on Thursday night during a practice match at Etihad Stadium.

He underwent his first knee reconstruction in August 2015 when he injured the same knee playing for the Dogs’ VFL team.

Bulldogs head physio Chris Bell said he would undergo traditional surgery.

Smith was picked up in the 2015 rookie draft and has only played two senior games for the club.
