Interesting dilemma

Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge faces an interesting decision ahead of his move to the Brisbane Lions.

Over the course of his 16-year career with the Hawks, Hodge never wore a number other than the iconic #15.

Unfortunately, however, this number is already occupied by arguably the Lions' best player: Dayne Zorko.

During his junior days at the Geelong Falcons, Hodge wore the #10; which is also taken by Daniel Rich.

The numbers available at the Lions following all retirements, trades and delistings include #2, #11, #16, #19, #23, #34, #38 and #40.

With Josh Schache departing the club during the AFL's trade period, it can be easily assumed that incoming Adelaide player Charlie Cameron will retain his #23 that he wore at the Crows.

The smart money for Hodge would be to bank on him lining up in the #16 in 2018.

Not only is it adjacent to his famous Hawthorn digit - but it is also the same number worn by Brisbane's own premiership icon Jonathan Brown.

It would be a suitable fit given the pair both hark back to their Victorian country roots in Colac and their careers shared similar levels of success.

The number is now vacant following the delisting of former Geelong midfielder Jarrad Jansen.
