Only four players look as though they are capable of cracking the magical 600-goal barrier in season 2018.

Richmond star Jack Riewoldt (537), Adelaide goalsneak Eddie Betts (534), Hawthorn captain Jarryd Roughead (529) and West Coast spearhead Josh Kennedy (519) are all in range of the milestone next year.

Only 30 players in the history of the VFL/AFL have booted 600 career majors, so it would be quite an achievement for any of the aforementioned quartet to do so.

But it won’t be easy for any of those four players, if history is a guide.

Riewoldt needs at least 63 goals to reach the mark, something he has only ever done twice in his 11-year career.

Betts requires at least 66 goals, which he has only done once in 13 seasons.

Roughead has to boot at least 71 majors, which he has done just three times since debuting in 2005.

And Kennedy needs at least 81 goals, which he has only done once in 12 seasons.
