Eight rounds in, it's fair to judge who's made a massive step forward this year.

Going by disposals, the biggest step looks to have been made by Melbourne's Clayton Oliver.

Oliver is averaging a remarkable 31 disposals a game this season, up from 19 in his debut season last year.

It's by far the biggest increase in disposals per game from 2016 to 2017.

Oliver comes in ahead of Carlton skipper Marc Murphy, who has too made a huge leap this year.

Murphy battled injury to play just 10 games and average 20.2 touches a game, but he's bounced right back to his best this year, also managing 30 disposals a game in 2017.
