If Collingwood win the premiership this week they will join Essendon and Carlton with the most flags in VFL/AFL history.
The Bombers and Blues have been locked on 16 titles for 19 years, but it could be a case of “three’s a crowd” if the Magpies add to their 15 premierships on Saturday when they face West Coast in the 2018 Grand Final at the MCG.
It’s been 37 years since Collingwood could brag about having the most flags in the history of the game, but they are still way out in front in terms of how many years (55) they had that status.
Interestingly, only four clubs have ever been able to say they’ve had the most titles in VFL/AFL history.
Years with most/equal most premierships in the league
Collingwood 55 (1903, 1928-81)
Carlton 39 (1915, 1981-2018)
Fitzroy 31 (1898-1928)
Essendon 30 (1897-98, 1901-03, 1912, 1984-86, 1993-94, 2000-18)
