Greater Western Sydney co-captain Callan Ward is the Triple M Footy Cbus Player of the Week for Round 10.

The Giants had been in scratchy form heading into their meeting with West Coast on Sunday. In their previous four matches, they had three victories by a combined total of eight points and lost to St Kilda by 23 points.

Not only had GWS never previously beaten the Eagles before but they had to travel to Perth without Devon Smith, Tom Scully, Stephen Coniglio, Rory Lobb, Ryan Griffen, Nick Haynes, Brett Deledio, Jacob Hopper, Steve Johnson, Matt Buntine and Adam Kennedy.

Somebody had to step up and lead the Giants, and Ward was that man as he registered 33 disposals (14 contested), 10 clearances, six tackles, five marks and three inside 50s to guide his side to a memorable eight-point victory at Domain Stadium.

The Giants are now sitting pretty in second spot with an 8-2 record thanks to their skipper and are well-placed for an assault on a maiden premiership.
