Richmond captain Trent Cotchin is the Triple M Footy Cbus Player of the Week for the Preliminary Final weekend.

Perhaps stung by criticism of his finals performances in recent years, Cotchin has taken his game to a new level this September and that continued on Saturday evening against Greater Western Sydney.

In front of nearly 95,000 screaming Richmond fans, the skipper led from the front with a spectacular best-on-ground performance that helped power the Tigers to a 36-point win over the Giants in the Second Preliminary Final at the MCG.

The 2012 Brownlow Medalist was superb and he ended up with 26 disposals, 17 contested possessions, seven clearances, nine tackles and five inside 50s.

His attack on both the ball and the man was inspirational and lifted his teammates, particularly in the second half as the Tigers booted 10 goals to four to bust open what was a tight game in the first half.

Richmond have now qualified for their first grand final in 35 years and will be aiming to win their first premiership in 37 years when they face Adelaide in the decider at the MCG on Saturday.

Cotchin becomes the second Tiger to win the award this year, joining Brownlow Medal favourite Dustin Martin who did so in the first round against Carlton.
