Port Adelaide v Carlton

Port have been up and about this season, with two very good wins in the first two rounds and losses where they acquitted themselves well to the 2017 pace-setters Adelaide and GWS. Carlton battled manfully against Gold Coast last week but were ultimately just too limited. Port should win this comfortably on their home deck.

Port Adelaide by 41

Crownbet odds:

Port Adelaide $1.08

Carlton $8.25

Western Bulldogs v Brisbane

The Dogs have looked sluggish so far this season, falling over the line against the much-maligned Roos last week after a loss to Freo. Brisbane on the other hand didn’t fire a shot against Richmond, going down by nine goals. Despite the Dogs’ struggles this year it’s difficult to mount an argument for anything other than a big win for them in Bob Murphy’s 300th match.

Western Bulldogs by 36

Crownbet odds:

Western Bulldogs $1.08

Brisbane $8.25

Gold Coast v Adelaide

The Suns are on a roll after two decent wins, but Adelaide are easily the best side in the competition at present. The Crows put on an attacking clinic and carved Essendon up with Eddie Betts leading the way with six snags. The $2.35 for Adelaide to win by 40+ looks good value.

Adelaide by 47

Crownbet odds:

Gold Coast $4.40

Adelaide $1.22

Sydney v GWS

Sydney are struggling badly, with a 0-4 record not flattering them at all. GWS got a rude shock at the hands of the Crows in round one but haven’t missed a beat since then. It’s a good time to get the Swans at the moment, and GWS should take full advantage.

GWS by 22

Crownbet odds:

Sydney $2.20

GWS $1.50

Fremantle v North Melbourne

Ross Lyon has started playing the kids and what do you know? It’s led to decent results! Their win against Melbourne at the MCG was highly meritorious, while North stuck with the reigning premiers until the last kick. In Perth it’s tough to see them getting that close again though.

Fremantle by 17

Crownbet odds:

Fremantle $1.53

North Melbourne $2.50

St Kilda v Geelong

St Kilda have laboured a bit in the last few weeks, although they have been winning albeit against Collingwood and Brisbane. Geelong’s 4-0 record is arguably a furphy; they really should have lost to both North Melbourne and Melbourne. St Kilda are arguably long in this game — they beat the Cats at Etihad midway through last year — and the +14.5 line looks like excellent value.

St Kilda by 7 points

Crownbet odds:

St Kilda $2.80

Geelong $1.45

Hawthorn v West Coast

The Hawks are famously having a terrible year, and they’ve given up when the going got too tough twice in a row now. West Coast are a side that put teams to the sword when they get a roll on, and the $3.65 for them to win by 40+ looks tasty.

West Coast by 56

Crownbet odds:

Hawthorn: $2.90

West Coast: $1.42

Richmond v Melbourne

Surely the best game of the weekend. Melbourne get Jesse Hogan back this week which should straighten up their goal kicking, and they have a good recent history against the Tiges. Richmond are famously up and about, with some fans starting to talk flags after their 4-0 start. Should be a corker under lights on Monday night, even if you have to search for it on your TV a bit.

Melbourne by 11

Crownbet odds:

Richmond $1.71

Melbourne $2.15

Essendon v Collingwood

The traditional Anzac Day game takes on extra significance this season, with Nathan Buckley under intense scrutiny. The Pies have looked limited so far this season, with their only win a lucky one-point margin against struggling Sydney. Essendon have acquitted themselves reasonably considering their travails of the last few years although they were never likely against the all-conquering Crows last week. Should be a cracker.

Essendon by 5

Crownbet odds:

Essendon $2.10

Collingwood $1.74
