Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett believes Port Adelaide are now leading the race for the signature of Brisbane Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff.

Rockliff looks set to leave the Lions as a restricted free agent next month and has been strongly linked to Carlton and the Power.

But it appears now that Alberton is Rockliff’s most likely destination for season 2018.

“Carlton had made the initial front-running, but Port Adelaide is up to its ears now in the fight for him,” Damo told The Midweek Rub during Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“It’s real and from what I’ve heard, they probably, if there is such a thing, have got their noses in front now in that chase.”

Damo expects the Lions to receive an end-of-first-round draft pick as compensation for losing Rockliff.

The 27-year-old captained the Lions for two years, won two best-and-fairests and earned All-Australian honours in 2014.

He has played 154 games for the Lions since debuting for them in 2009.

Damo also reaffirmed the Power’s strong desire to lure Steven Motlop from Geelong.

“They’ve been able to free up their salary cap space ... and they’re going to go for it,” he said.
