Triple M's Damian Barrett believes St Kilda has tabled GWS defender Adam Tomlinson a five-year deal.

Tomlinson re-signed with the Giants at the beginning of 2017, signing a two-year contract extension.

Barrett told AFL trade radio the Saints feel Tomlinson is gettable, despite being tied to GWS for two more years.

He played 24 of a possible 25 games for GWS this season, locking down a spot in the back half, and recorded a career high of 26 disposals in GWS's preliminary final against Richmond.

St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains earlier said there was interest in Tomlinson, but making a play was difficult with him under contract.

"'Tommo' is someone who we have had interest in when he was out of contract a couple of years ago. He signed an extension and played all but one game for the Giants across the year," he told AFL trade radio.

"Again, everything we understand is that he is contracted for another two years and was one of their best in the preliminary final, we don’t expect the Giants to be parting with him. That’s the state of play."

The Saints have previously expressed their interest in delisted Sydney defender Michael Talia to bolster their key defensive stocks.

Bains said on Thursday that they are keen on giving defenders Jake Carlisle and Nathan Brown more support.
