Gold Coast defender Adam Saad has been traded to Essendon for the Bombers’ 2018 second-round draft pick.

Saad has played 48 games in three seasons with the Suns and will now look to further bolster Essendon’s backline.

The 23-year-old didn't miss a game for the Suns this year, averaging 16.6 disposals per game and booting two goals.

He averaged three rebound 50s per game and had the most running bounces of any player in the league with 93.

The Saad move is Essendon’s second piece of business of the trade period, with GWS small forward Devon Smith making the move late last week.

Essendon also received pick 23 in this year’s draft and next year’s second round pick from the Giants, while pick 11 and Essendon’s 2018 third round pick went to the Giants.

The Bombers now have their sights set on Western Bulldogs forward Jake Stringer who wants to move to Tullamarine.
