Melbourne is pursuing homesick Fremantle youngster Harley Balic, football manager Josh Mahoney has confirmed.

The 20-year-old Balic is looking at his options back in Victoria in this year's trade period.

The second-year player took a leave of absence back in July to head back to Melbourne.

Mahoney confirmed the Dees were interested in bringing him across.

“We’re interested in Harley and we’ve spoken to Freo about that,” he told AFL Trade Radio.

“At the moment, Fremantle have probably got some other priorities that they're working through.

“But we're interested in Harley, and we think that something could get done this trade period.”

Balic made his debut in 2017, playing four games for the season and kicking three goals, after being drafted with pick 38 in the 2015 AFL draft.
