St Kilda has landed defender Logan Austin in a trade with Port Adelaide.

Austin has been traded to St Kilda alongside Port Adelaide's 2018 fourth round pick for St Kilda's 2018 third-round pick.

Austin, who had a year to run on his contract, expressed his desire to reach St Kilda overnight.

It was reported he was after more senior opportunity, after playing just two games this season to bring his career total to 13.

Austin found himself stuck behind Jack Hombsch, Tom Jonas, Tom Clurey and Dougal Howard in the key defensive stocks at the Power.

The 22-year-old was drafted with pick 69 in the 2014 AFL draft and made his debut in 2016.

He played two games in 2017, the round 17 and 18 clashes with North Melbourne and Melbourne, before being dropped back to the SANFL.
