Hot Breakfast news breaker Tom Browne says that Port Adelaide put Ryan Burton’s name into discussions about the trade for Chad Wingard rather than Hawthorn.

LISTEN HERE:

“My mail is [Hawthorn] offered their first round pick and Burton came up in discussion from the other side and that’s when the talks initiated,” Browne said.

“I know Clarko’s tough in trades, I get it, he always puts the Hawks first, but I think the truth might be somewhere in the middle here.

“I don’t think the Hawks put Burton on the table, I think Port raised it.”

Burton has played 47 games for the Hawks since being drafted with pick 19 in the 2015 draft, and came second to Andrew McGrath in the 2017 Rising Star award.
