No "Hollywood" For Aussie

Andrew Bogut's officially an LA Laker.

But Hollywood he is not.

"That's what I'm worried about," said the 32 year old.

"Normally when Australians come to Hollywood they become Hollywood."

Bogut made his first appearance in the famous purple and gold at a media day ahead of the Lakers' training camp scheduled to start on Tuesday.

The 213-centimetre tall Australian has recovered from a broken leg he suffered in the opening minute of his Cleveland Cavaliers debut last season.

He'll be one of the few veterans on a young and rising Lakers team featuring the second pick in the NBA draft, point guard Lonzo Ball.

But was there interest from teams further away from Hollywood?

"The other two teams were pitter-pattering their feet," said Bogut.

"There wasn't too much traction going on there."

"They were hanging me out to dry a little bit to wait and Luke called and said they had an offer for me."

Luke is Luke Walton, who coached Bogut back when he was running the boards for the championship winning Golden State Warriors.

Considering the Lakers had the NBA's worst defence last season, it's no surprise they came calling.

Bogut will compete for court time with ex-Net Brook Lopez who's overcoming a back injury.

"I'd definitely rather play with Andrew Bogut than play against him. He'd beat me up normally. But it's very cool having him on the team."

September 30 is when the Lakers step out for the first time against a re-tooled Minnesota Timberwolves with new recruit Jimmy Butler in uniform.

They're keeping it local in the season opener against the Clippers on October 19.
