The Philadelphia 76ers may have lost to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop Australian star Ben Simmons creating more history.

Simmons registered his seventh triple-double of the season which is the equal-second most by a rookie in NBA history along with the legendary Magic Johnson.

Only the great Oscar Robertson (26) has recorded more triple-doubles in a rookie season (1960-61) than Simmons and Johnson.

Simmons now needs one more triple-double this season to move into outright second spot for triple-doubles by a rookie.

The 21-year-old racked up 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the 76ers’ 98-101 loss to the Pacers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia are now 36-30 but remain on course for their first playoffs appearance in six years as they are in sixth spot in the Eastern Conference and six games inside the top eight with 16 games left in the regular season.

Meanwhile, Australian pair Patty Mills and Joe Ingles have played important roles in victories for the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz respectively in NBA action on Wednesday.

Only LaMarcus Aldridge (27 points) scored more for the Spurs than Mills (13) as they crushed the Orlando Magic 108-72, while Ingles (17) was also the second-highest scorer for the Jazz in their comprehensive 110-79 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Ingles recorded seven rebounds and seven assists as well in what was an impressive individual performance.
