Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons has officially been named rookie of the year.
Simmons became the first Aussie to claim the award in its history on Tuesday morning, besting Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum for the prize.
The 21-year-old recorded 12 triple doubles in his rookie season, the second most by a rookie in NBA history.
"I'd like to thank my family, friends. I wouldn't be here without them," he said after winning the award.
"My teammates, of course, and my great coach, and the city of Philadelphia for really embracing me. Thank you."
