Young Australian star Ben Simmons’ efforts against the Sacramento Kings were all in vain as his Philadelphia 76ers lost an NBA thriller 109-108 on Friday.

Simmons’ teammate Joel Embiid had the chance to win the game for the Sixers, but his mid-range jumper at the death missed its target as the Kings hung on for a one-point victory on their home court.

The 76ers led 108-102 with 1:10 to go, but Sacramento rallied to hit the last seven points of the match.

Simmons was much more accurate than previous outings as he registered 18 points on 6-8 clips from both the field and the free-throw line, including another jaw-dropping slam dunk.

The 20-year-old also had six assists and an equal game-high two steals.

Embiid was Philadelphia’s best with 22 points and 15 rebounds while Robert Covington recorded 24 and seven.

Zach Randolph (20 and seven) and Justin Jackson (19) were the best for Sacramento.

The 76ers’ win-loss record is now 6-5 while the Kings have improved to 3-8.
