The NBA season is over for Australian duo Joe Ingles and Dante Exum after the Utah Jazz were eliminated from the playoffs by the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

The Rockets won 112-102 in Houston to take the series 4-1 and set up a Western Conference finals match-up against the winner of the series between the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans.

The Jazz held a five-point lead early in the final quarter but the Rockets, led by Chris Paul's career playoff high 41 points and James Harden's 18, were too strong down the stretch with huge plays.

Ingles did not break out with a point-scoring spree as the Jazz hoped, with the Australian scoring 12 points including just two three-pointers from six attempts.

The Jazz's best player, rookie Donovan Mitchell, with 24 points, sparked a 21-6 third quarter run but the team's fortunes crashed when Mitchell clashed knees with Harden with seven minutes to go in the game and hobbled to the locker room.

Exum sat out of the game with a hamstring injury he suffered in game four.
