This could change everything.

Golden State star Kevin Durant is down and out for the immediate future with a knee injury which might just rule him out of the rest of the regular NBA season.

It's a major blow for the Warriors' title aspirations - particularly if Durant misses play-off games.

KD sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and bruised a bone in his leg during Tuesday night's loss at Washington.

Team-mate Steph Curry will have to step it up in his absence.

The two-time reigning MVP tweeted some words of support.

The shot-blocking 'jack of all trades' has been a huge force in helping Golden State to a league best 50-10 win-loss record this season.

He not only tops the team in scoring but also rebounds.

The Warriors are in the middle of another historic season, becoming the earliest team to secure a playoff spot when they beat the Nets on the weekend.

Their next task?

Locking up top spot in the western conference.

One they might have to do without the ex-Thunder superstar.

As the NBA world holds its breath for the prospect of a 3rd straight Golden State-Cleveland Finals, LeBron James weighed in.

"I hope it's not serious," James said. "We'll see what happens."

In other injury news it's season over for Philadelphia centre Joel Embiid who injured his left knee.

He's considered a strong candidate for rookie of the year, averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds this season.
