Ben Simmons has scored a triple-double to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to their first victory of the new NBA season.

The 76ers cruised to a 127-108 win over the Chicago Bulls in Philadelphia on Thursday (local time) with Simmons stacking the score sheet with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocked shots.

The Australian 22-year-old was so dominant he achieved the triple-double late in the third quarter and with a play that exemplified his status as one of the NBA's elite.

Simmons brought the ball down the court and threw a behind-the-back pass to an open 76ers forward Robert Covington who sank a three-pointer.

Simmons had 12 triple-doubles last season on his way to winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

The 76ers scored the win after the Boston Celtics crushed them by 18 points in Tuesday's season-opener.

While Simmons orchestrated the win with his control of the court, 76ers centre Joel Embiid overpowered the Bulls with 30 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks while second-year guard Markelle Fultz had 12 points.

The Bulls, who are expected to miss the playoffs, were led by guard Zach LaVine's 30 points.

The 76ers' Australian rookie, Jonah Bolden, played the final two minutes and missed his one field goal attempt.
