The Lakers Are Retiring Both Of Kobe Bryant's Numbers
Because Kobe...
It was always a given, but now it's been confirmed by the L.A. Lakers.
Kobe Bryant's jersey number is being retired.
Which one you ask?
Well both actually.
The #8 and #24 will be hoisted to the rafters of the Staples Centre in Los Angeles in December 18, before the Lakers play the Golden State Warriors.
Kobe was a beast in both numbers winning 3 NBA Championships in #8 (2000, 2001, 2002) and 2 in his #24 (2009, 2010).
It means a Hall of Fame case could be made for Bryant in either jersey.
While few remember the season Michael Jordan wore #45, there'll be plenty who remember the Lakers legend in both #8 and #24.
Now, he'll be remembered as the only NBA player to have both of his numbers retired.
Kobe was no slouch in his prime.
If you need a refresher on just how damaging he was, check out the video below of him dropping 81 points on the Toronto Raptors in 2006.
It was the second-highest points haul in a single game in NBA history (behind Walt Chamberlain's 100-point clinic in 1962).
