A 15-year-old has been headbutted at a while umpiring a local junior cricket game in Melbourne’s west over the weekend.
The boy was umpiring an under-11s game between Sunshine and Caroline Springs on Friday night when he was allegedly headbutted by a spectator.
The teenager was apparently attacked after he told a group of adult spectators that they weren’t allowed to drink at the junior games.
Caroline Springs Cricket Club president Steve Collins addressed the incident in a Facebook post.
“During an under-11 game one of our junior members was assaulted whilst working as an umpire,” Collins wrote.
“This incident is now in the police hands and all members involved and the club are supporting the police with these matters.”
Victoria Police confirmed that a 15-year-old boy was assaulted at a cricket ground in Sunshine North on Friday.
Police are yet to make any arrests.
