Cricket Australia has cracked down heavily on slow over rates in the Big Bash, handing out fines to 44 players.

The men’s Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars teams were fined, while the women’s Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers sides were stung as well.

All four teams were considered one over short in their matches, which triggered fines for each player in the XI.

The men will be fined $1000 each, while the women are copping $250.

Fines can be halved if the team accepts the penalty without appeal.

The offences also leave a strike next to the captains names, with a second strike triggering an automatic extension.

Sixers skipper Moises Henriques and Stars captain John Hastings now have strikes, while Suzie Bates for the Strikers and Amy Satterthwaite for the Renegades are now on the brink of suspension as well.
