Big hitting Victorian opener Aaron Finch will captain Australia’s ODI team in next month’s series against South Africa, with Alex Carey and Josh Hazlewood to serve as his vice-captains.

The 14-man squad for the series starting in Perth on November 4 was confirmed today, with Hazlewood’s fellow fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitch Starc included to bolster the pace battery.

Shaun Marsh kept his spot along with Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head, while power hitter Chris Lynn has also been picked.

Mitch Marsh and Nathan Lyon headline the exclusions, although selector Trevor Hohns says it’s to manage their workloads.

"We have made the decision to manage Mitch Marsh and Nathan Lyon carefully to ensure they are in the best condition possible to put their hand up for selection either later in the summer or the World Cup next year," Hohns said.

"No doubt with a big summer program ahead, opportunities may well present themselves for Andrew (Tye), Mitch and Nathan, as well as others not included in this squad.”

THE FULL SQUAD:

Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Alex Carey (vc), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood (vc), Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, D'Arcy Short, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

The series kicks off at Optus Stadium next Sunday, with games at Adelaide Oval on the 9th of November and Blundstone Arena in Hobart on the 11th.
