Big hitting opener Aaron Finch has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s opening tri-series T20 against New Zealand at the SCG.

Finch has been unable to recover from the hamstring strain that kept him out of the last two one-dayers against England.

T20 captain David Warner confirmed the news today.

"He didn’t feel like he was up," Warner said.

"He went through some run throughs yesterday with the medical staff, he said he sort of felt it a little bit.

“We didn’t want to risk him going into this tri-series with this first game.

“He's going to be on ice definitely."

He will be most likely be replaced as opener by D’Arcy Short, who has dominated this season’s Big Bash League.

Short is the top run scorer in the tournament, with 504 at an average of 56 and with three fifties and a century.

Brisbane Heat firebrand Chris Lynn is also a chance to open.
