Afghanistan has smashed New Zealand in the Under 19 World Cup, beating the Kiwis by 202 runs in a lop-sided affair at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The Afghans made 6/309 from their 50 overs, with a late charge from Azmatullah Omarzai making the total very imposing for the Kiwis.

Azmatullah made 66 off just 23 balls in a display of brutal power-hitting, including seven sixes and three fours.

Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran made 69 and 68 respectively, while Bahir Shah made 67.

The Afghani bowlers then set out about wrecking the NZ top order, with off spinner Mujeeb Zadran taking 4/14 and leggie Qais Ahmed returning figured of 4/33.

The Kiwis were reduced to 4/20 in the 7th over, and then made it to 4/86 before losing their last six wickets for 21.

Afghanistan will now play Australia for a berth in the Under 19 World Cup final at the same venue.
