Alex Doolan has gone one better, bringing up a massive double century in the Sheffield Shield.

One day after Cameron Bancroft posted the first double ton of the season with 228 not out, Doolan went even better.

After a duck in the first innings against Victoria, the 31-year-old posted a whopping 247 not out in the second dig, the highest score in his career, as Tasmania declared at 2/424.

It surpasses his previous best of 202 not out, scored almost exactly one year ago against Western Australia.

Triple M Rocks The Ashes ball by ball from day one of the first Test in Brisbane, Thursday 23 November.

His massive knock came off 380 balls and featured 29 fours and one six.

Of Victoria's bowlers, Fawad Ahmed (0/121) and Dan Christian (0/95) copped it the worst, with Peter Siddle (1/41) and Chris Tremain (1/42) the only wicket takers.

Tim Paine was also in the runs, scoring 71 not out, as was George Bailey (59).

It all sets Victoria a target of 453 to win.
