The AFL tried a draft rehearsal at Marvel Stadium last night that ended in a complete shemozzle after the internet crashed at the venue.

The league had planned to do a dry run of 50 draft picks, but had to abandon the plan after 31 picks because the time being taken between each pick was too long.

There is a five minute deadline for picks that had be to extended to 15 minutes to allow for logistical difficulties that arose due to the lack of internet.

"It was a complete debacle," a club recruiter told The Age.

"It doesn't fill you confidence about tonight. You have enough on your plate thinking about players without that."

The AFL told clubs that they would fix the problem but there’s a back-up plan involving runners taking paperwork from club boxes back to the AFL.

"We were laughing about it because they said they go back to pen and paper and hire people to run the picks in from the rooms,” another club recruiter said.

“So the runners are back! They tried to kill them off but they are back."
