Australia has added left arm spinner Ashton Agar to their squad for next week’s Test at the SCG.

Agar has been picked ahead of Steve O’Keefe and Jon Holland and could be in line to play his first Test on Australian soil.

Agar has played four Tests for Australia since his memorable debut at Trent Bridge in the 2013 Ashes, averaging 32.5 with the bat and 45.55 with the ball.

The SCG has traditionally been the best in the country for spin, with Lyon and O’Keefe operating in tandem as a dual tweak attack there in both of the last two years.

Holland has been overlooked despite excellent Sheffield Shield form; he took 50 wickets last season at 21 and has 11 wickets from two games this summer.

O’Keefe played in all four Tests against India earlier this year, famously spinning the Aussies to victory in Pune, and featured in Bangladesh as well.

Agar is currently playing in the Big Bash for the undefeated Perth Scorchers.
