Australia have added Test batsman Peter Handscomb to the ODI squad to face India.

Handscomb has been called in to cover for injured opener Aaron Finch who will not be available for the first 'few' games with a calf complaint.

Australian physio Alex Kountouris provided an update on Finch to cricket.com.au

"Aaron re-aggravated his pre-existing calf injury during warm-up at training yesterday," he said.

"He has had a scan in Chennai and although we believe it is not a serious recurrence, he will not be available for the first few one-day matches here in India.

"He will remain with the squad whilst we assess the injury and establish his return to play timelines."

Handscomb has recently arrived home from the Test tour of Bangladesh and will fly back to India on Saturday.

The first ODI will be played on Sunday in Chennai.
