Australia has ended 2017 with the leading wicket taker and leading run scorer in Tests.

Nathan Lyon finished with 63 wickets from 11 matches at an average of 23.55 with five five wicket hauls, one 10 for and best bowling of 8/50.

He finished six wickets ahead of South African quick Kagiso Rabada and seven ahead of Ravi Ashwin.

Jimmy Anderson and Ravi Ashwin complete the top five.

Steve Smith finished with 1305 runs from 20 innings in 11 Tests at an average of 76.76.

Smith made six tons and three 50s, with his highest score the 239 he made at the WACA against England.

He finished nearly 200 runs ahead of Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara with 1140, with South African Dean Elgar and Virat Kohli in third and fourth.

It was a year of mixed Test successes for Australia, with their first loss to Bangladesh and a series loss in India coming up against a resounding Ashes victory and a rare win in India.

Australia has one last Ashes Test in 2018 before a tour to South Africa in February and Zimbabwe and Bangladesh both coming to Australia in June and July.

India will be in Australia for four Tests at the end of the year.
